Happy New Year!

That’s it, the railway is now closed until March. This is to allow our members and their locos a break and the chance to work on the larger maintenance and improvement jobs on the railway that cannot be done whilst the railway is running regularly.

Good progress is being made on these tasks with the first phase of the Raised Level relaying project coming along well, this being our major project for this winter. The whole track will eventually be done but as it is such a large job we will be tackling it in sections so as not to have the track closed for too long at a time. The aim is to have this first phase completed for the beginning of our running season at the end of March.

Another project is the realigning of the Ground Level carriage shed entrance spur from the mainline. This is being done as the curve here was originally laid to an extremely tight radius out of necessity at the time, which has meant only some locos were able to access the carriage shed. It has not been a priority until now as the growing size of locomotives that run at Cutteslowe has meant that it has become more of a problem. A new curve has been laid and a new complex diamond crossing is being made to fit. This is a difficult job as everything has to align perfectly!

Our 2026 timetable is now published on our Timetable page as well as posted around the railway itself, our usual pattern is the 1st, 3rd and 5th Sunday of each month as well as bank holidays and some Wednesdays during the Summer.
